The Motor Control Unit Explained
A Motor Control Unit is a device intended
on exerting control over several aspects of motor operation. It
may adjust speed or torque, starting and stopping. The
electronics in the Motor Control Unit are essentially a basic
computer. It usually does functions like carrying out commands
manually entered. There may be preset commands, as well, which
control the overall functions, or specific ones that never change.
The computer operation may be accomplished remotely via a remote
controller pad, a more powerful computer which may or may not be
connected with other devices, and even with a computerized management
network.
Motor Control Unit & Data Collection
In a Motor Control Unit it is not unusual
for there to be history functions which record certain values or
numbers reached during operations plotted against time. The
Motor Control Unit may even be capable of calculating graphs from
the data collected. The data may be used to calculate corrections
in activity for operational optimization. Most, if not all, have
the capacity to monitor activity and activate warnings under possible
error or fault conditions. Additionally, many can do
self-diagnostics that will help troubleshoot and correct errors and
faults. All these depend to some degree on the data collection
capability.
Variations Of Motor Control Units
While all Motor Control Units depend on
the basic use of solid-state electronics, there are many variations and
models dedicated to handling specific situations. Many are
variable frequency drives which handle single or 3 phase AC motors.
Some are coupled with specific types of motors only they will control
(like the
stepper
motor control or vector VFD.) Many will only run a
specialized DC motor. A variation even exists which can
simultaneously control two motors (The
dual motor control.) An entire field of Motor Control
Units exists in industry and manufacturing where the product is
pre-designed and all aspects of the machining and production is carried
out by direction of the
CNC motor
control.
The Motor Control Unit Advantage
A motor is usually limited to the frequency as
delivered by the mains and the electrical transmission system where the
motor is being used. Frequency is pre-set and generally not
normally adjusted. The creation of flux within a motor is
dependent on the frequency of expansions and collapses of the
electrical field around the windings. (In the case of the
DC motor
this becomes the frequency of on and off cycles of the current.)
The speed of the motor is directly tied to this relationship and means
that the speed will be relatively constant for any given combination of
frequency and voltage. The capability of altering the frequency
via the Motor Control Unit pretty much at will then allows the
speed to be changed at will. A motor will run as fast as it is
capable of withstanding the frequencies and voltages fed into it and
still maintain its integrity.
TEMCo's Operating Philosophy
Granting that any company should at least be
intending on survival, we sometimes have to ask ourselves, "How do we
accomplish this?" It is here that one goes astray if he starts to
think that concern over survival is best met by way of actions that
protect only oneself. In truth, the only way a company or
organization (or individual) can survive well is to provide really
valuable service. All basic actions have to be founded on this
proposition.
At TEMCo we have decided on six basic functions
that are the parts of any transaction. If one provides for all
six of these then service will be highly valued and customers will have
confidence and satisfaction in his relationship with the company.
Here they are:
Product Must be high quality.
TEMCo delivers quality products.
Customer Service our sales
personnel are knowledgeable and professional. They are there to
help our customers answer questions and choose the correct device for
their installation.
Shipping & Delivery We know fast
delivery is important. Slow delivery and delays cost money.
It can extend expensive downtime during repairs and new installations.
All our stock items are sent out within 24 hours of orders.
Custom-made items are usually shipped within the week.
Product Support No one likes to
have a product with no recourse to asking necessary questions or
getting answers if there are issues to resolve. Our product
support is for the life of the device or item purchased. You will
never be left with no one to help.
The Warranty A good warranty
expresses the confidence a company has in its own products. Ours
is the best in the industry.
The Price Most people really
appreciate all of the above points. But you know, nearly everyone
also likes to get a great deal. We offer the best competitive
prices available.
