What Is A Motor Controller?

A Motor Controller is a mechanism designed for managing some form of motor function.  They are often for controlling speed and/or torque, but may serve in other ways.  They may work in single units or as coordinated groups.  Various functions like setting speed, altering torque, starting or stopping the motor, reversing rotation, and safeguarding against faults and overloads may be included with either automatic or manual controls.  Motor Controllers may further have the capacity to network through computers and software for programming, monitoring, administrative management and other purposes.  They may be made for either AC motors or DC motors.

Motor Controller Industrial Applications

Since motors and motor-driven equipment are a primary feature of many industrial operations, Motor Controllers will now be found in abundance in such places.  The variety found will be quite astonishing.  They may range in size from a sewing bobbin to that of a diesel locomotive.  The actual physical location they exist in may be one of several.  Motor Controllers can be found inside the machine itself, mounted separately near it, installed in control panels with additional control devices, and installed in control centers.  In many instances a number of Motor Controllers can be ganged together and coordinated so as to run several motors in a team effort.
