Franklin Motor Control–Franklin Electric Company History

Franklin Motor Controls are a current product of the Franklin Electric Company which was founded in 1944 by two electrical engineers.  Its primary product at that time was generators for military use by the Army Signal Corp.  At end of WWII this demand became defunct.  In an accommodation to this change, Franklin Electric began producing motors for water pump applications.  To this day Franklin has not dropped its interest in water pumping systems and has been a leading innovator in this technology.

In 1949 the first practical water-lubricated submersible pump was patented by Franklin.  In 1959, 1966, 1976, 1988 and 2006 the company introduced innovations in this field.  Several acquisitions along the way also provided access to areas of the world and to related technology and experience which would enhance the company's efforts.  Solid-state technology was first introduced into Franklin products in 1973 with a starting switch.  In 1996 variable speed pumping systems were brought forth.  In this developmental period Franklin Motor Control H2O drive VFDs came out as part of the package.

Today, Franklin water and fuel pumping systems (including their Franklin Motor Controls) are distributed world wide.  Franklin has markets developed in the Americas, Asia, Europe, Australia & New Zealand, and South Africa. 

Franklin Motor Control Systems Available

Water pumping systems offered include standard packages for 4" (1/3-10 hp) and 6" and 8" configurations (5-200 hp).  Franklin Motor Control devices are produced which match the needs of these packages.  The systems are fit for grey water, clean water, and water transfer applications.  Franklin also offers fuel management systems with 2, 3, 4 hp and 5 hp motors as options. variable speed drive Franklin Motor Control solutions are applied to these systems as well. 

Franklin Motor Control Model STP-SCI

The most recent Franklin Motor Control offered is the STP-SCI.  It is designed as an intelligent Motor Controller meant to retrofit to existing installations of standard control boxes.  It has a wide gamut of improved and new features helpful in modern pump operations. 

It can be retrofitted to single phase STPs using 1/3-2 hp motors with competitive makes which also include FE Petro.  The retrofit is exceedingly easy.  One simply installs, replacing the original control box, and presses the reset button.  This Franklin Motor Control automatically learns the pump's electrical characteristics.  It will automatically log the most recent five abnormal conditions and retain this in memory.  Numerous attributes include items like:
